Aqua-farming
Reduce the Risk of Loss due to Bacterial Infections with the Routine use of Povidone-Iodine.
Povidone-Iodine is a non-toxic, non-staining antimicrobial, most commonly known in its applications as a topical antiseptic in hospitals (surgical scrub and surgical preparation), or as an over-the-counter product available in pharmacies.
In recent years PVP-Iodine has become an important product for the aqua-farming industry, and is used extensively as a disinfectant in hatcheries, and in shrimp farms in Southeast Asia, the USA, South America and elsewhere.
In hatcheries, PVP-Iodine is used for the disinfection of eggs, with no withdrawal required, at a rate of 50 mg/L (50 ppm) for 30 minutes during hardening, and 100 mg/L (100 ppm) for 10 minutes after water hardening.
As aqua-farming production increases worldwide, the need to protect ponds and reservoirs from contamination has also become increasingly crucial to the fish/shrimp farmer, whose investment may be wiped out by germs and bacteria. PVP-Iodine is used extensively by aqua-farmers to reduce fish and fish-egg mortality because of its ability to rapidly kill harmful bacteria in ponds.
For several years Marcus Research has serviced the aqua farming industry, in conjunction with the manufacturers and suppliers who directly serve the industry. We recommend PVP-Iodine Dubldone for use in aqua-farming applications.
Dubldone is a stable product, and has an available Iodine content roughly twice that of PVP-Iodine USP (9.0 - 12.0%). This benefits the formulator because less powder is required to yield a batch of finished product, resulting in a direct cost-savings over PVP-Iodine USP. Because aqua-farming disinfectants are not required to be made from a USP product, the potential for cost-savings is significant.
PVP-Iodine Dubldone is packaged in PE liners inside 50-kilo net fiber drums, with a lead seal. Delivered pricing, samples and technical support for producing finished products are available upon request.

Veterinary Applications
Other non-pharmaceutical applications include teat dips to prevent mastitis in cows, surgical scrubs and preps for animal surgery, and ointments for cuts and scratches to animals that spend considerable time outdoors - such as horses.
PVP-Iodine is also used in foot-baths to prevent the transfer of germs from one house of livestock to another.
